About me

I'm Kevin Espiñeira—a senior Platform Engineer / SRE in Spain, building reliable, observable, and cost-optimized platforms.

Background

I design, build, and operate AWS-centric platforms for a multi-brand EdTech group (Northius), mostly around EKS clusters that host dozens of Moodle-based products. My work spans infrastructure as code, CI/CD, networking, and guiding teams through migrations and runbooks.

Reliability and observability shape everything I do—Grafana, CloudWatch, and OpenTelemetry dashboards, SLOs and error budgets, and incident-ready playbooks. I keep a close eye on cost governance too, balancing performance with spend across multiple AWS accounts.

I’m based in Spain (Europe/Madrid) and work comfortably in Spanish and English, including writing technical content and documentation in both languages.

What I'm building

EKS-based environments with Karpenter/Cluster Autoscaler, Aurora MySQL, Redis sessions, and CloudFront + WAF. I also design event-driven platforms with EventBridge, SQS, Lambda, and ECS Fargate—using patterns like transactional outbox, aggregators, retries, and DLQs.

With the data team, I help ship SageMaker models (like lead scoring) via Terraform modules and GitHub Actions, exposing APIs through API Gateway or EKS services. I’m migrating pipelines from Jenkins to GitHub Actions and standardizing workflows for Terraform, Lambdas, EKS, and GitOps.

How I can help

Cloud infrastructure on AWS, Kubernetes operations, observability, SRE practices, and cost optimization. I support teams with clear documentation, pairing, and stakeholder updates that connect engineering work to business value.

I’m also product-minded and entrepreneurial—exploring ideas like synthetic monitoring tools—so I enjoy collaborating on platforms and products that blend infra, data, and user experience.
